Introduction: Planting an Unlikely Pair of Succulents : Kalanchoe Blossfeldiana & Aeonium Arboreum

What's that saying all but lemons? I've heard it many another multiplication and it's something about life giving you lemons so you make lemonade. Ohio yes, and in this case, the resultant role is an unconvincing pair of succulents to ploughshare a pot. I wasn't quite an fated what I was going to come with my Kalanchoe blossfeldiana and my Aeonium arboreum (the mixed bag is autropurpureum) cuttings indeed I decided to plant them all at once in my pretty blue Calla Lily whole lot which I've had for ages.

Step 1:

You can see the aeoinum cuttings that I self-sown at the front (not the larger rose window – that's a different variety) of the tray. They were tinged with purplish burgundy in earlyish June & then turned green. Now, in December, they're turn colouration again.

When I drove 9 hours from Santa Barbara to Tucson 1 Clarence Day leading of the movers, my smallish car was jammed compact with plants, pots and 2 cats. I was crammed into the driver's seat with limited vision and slightly frazzled nervousness from Academy Award yapping away the whole trip out simply I did feel equal I was commanding a mobile greenhouse. I left nearly of my fleshy juicy plants behind simply brought cuttings which I taken the day before the move. I'm not sure how this kalanchoe made it in (I had at least 5 of them in my previous garden) but it did.

Step 2: At My Work Defer Planting the Kalanchoe & Aeonium Cuttings

I call this an unlikely sexual unio because you normally put on't see these 2 succulents planted together. Kalanchoe blossfediana (ordinarily called "kalanchoe") is often seen in dish garden plantings for both home and office. IT's sold as a short term blooming houseplant instead of an indoor plant in it for the long haul. The Aeonium arboreum is an exterior constitute which develops into a Tree-like grade over prison term reach around 3′.

Aeoniums, so I've detected through and through the horticultural grape, are tricky to grow outdoors here in Tucson. It makes sense because many of them are native to the Sneak Islands which are titled the islands of eternal jump on – their climate is so much more the likes of San Diego than the Sonoran Desert. I honey to use aeoniums for crafting and just had to bring a few cuttings when I moved. I'm going to have a go at growing these indoors (I do have a couple of cuttings growing outside and so far so opportune on those too) because isn't that what a great deal of horticulture is wholly about? It's healthy valuable a try!

Stone's throw 3:

The aeoniums cuttings & the kalanchoe at my work table ready and waiting to be planted upward. There had been a wind storm few days earlier that sweptwing the kalanchoe inactive my fence & sent its originate pot flaring someplace not to be found. Honestly, that was the accelerator for this planting jut out!

Step 4:

Where it happily sits today beneath a skylight &adenylic acid; welcomes altogether into my guest john. As you give the axe see, the kalanchoe is full of flower buds so I'll find out what emblazon it is.

What I did:

– I used succulent & cactus mixture along with just a little of living thing compost to plant this combo.

– Affected the locoweed to a bright shady area to information technology could settle in.

– Watered IT thoroughly after 5 days.

– Let information technology dry out for a a couple of more days before moving indoors. I think these 2 plants look outstanding planted together. I equal the look of the kalanchoe symmetric when it's not anthesis. The aeoniums won't stay nice and low they they are right now. They'll grow and formulate a stem so I'll need to cut them back and replant once a year. That's just fine with me

– propagating succulents is a snap!

Happy gardening,

Nell
